Jazz Thornton - Young New Zealander of the Year 2021

Voices of Hope co-founder Jazz won the prestigious Young New Zealander of the Year 2021 for her work in mental health advocacy.

The morning after the awards, Jazz joined the AM show, telling the hosts “When I was standing up there, I got so overwhelmed at the thought of my younger self who was sitting in that psych ward - man, she had no idea this day would come. I feel very humbled and overwhelmed”.

“It was years spent just wholeheartedly believing the world would be better off without me in it. I often sit back and remember those moments - remembering sitting in the ICU of a psych ward. I’m so incredibly grateful that I get to do what I do.” (as quoted on Newshub)
